Abstract

As an archipelagic country, ships play a vital mode of transportation in connecting the islands in Indonesia. There are various types of ships sailing in Indonesia. One of them is a high-speed ferry/passenger boat with a relatively higher speed than other ships. The higher speed can be obtained due to the applied hull planning model. In order to ensure ship performance, the most essential aspect to consider is ship resistance. Currently, the design of fast boats has undergone many changes and modifications to the hull to obtain a ship design that guarantees the performance and safety of the ship. Reducing the resistance of fast boats can be conducted by modifying the hull's shape by adding a stepped hull shape. In this research, a U-shaped stepped has been applied to the boat hull with some variations of stepped from 1 to 3 Stepped. The results of the analysis of testing the model show that the ship's trim will increase as the ship's speed increases. The ship's resistance of the model shows that as the number of applied stepped increase, the resistance of the model decreases significantly. At two-stepped with a model speed of 2.5 – 3.5 m/s, a reduction in the value of the ship's resistance is obtained by 31,530%, 30,803%, and 30,521% compared to the ship model with one-stepped, and on a three-stepped model with a ship speed of 2.5 – 3.5 m/s, a reduction in value is obtained ship resistance of 56.208%, 52.321%, 51.890% compared to the ship model with one-stepped.
